'Old Boy' is based on the manga of the same name that was serialized in Japan from 1996 to 1998. It is the story of five days of confusion as Oh Dae-su (Choi Min-sik), who was kidnapped to a hotel room and held captive for 15 years, is suddenly released without explanation and discovers why he was imprisoned.

In 2004, the year after its release, 'Oldboy' won the Grand Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival in France and was recognized for its quality by being ranked 30th in the BBC's 'Top 100 Films of the 21st Century'.
